Views of exterior replating
Not quite at the beginning of re-plating but almost. Mid hull is the access hatch cut into the boat so it’s not necessary to climb up to the deck and back down inside everytime. The patch with the black edges was the first piece of new steel welded in Starboard side with a quantity of new areas re-plated, these had been repaired by another welder (not Nautica Tec) and most were subsequently removed and re done This is a large panel under the starboard side just forward of the aft cabin (the aft section is detailed in the “aft repairs” section. It was possible to use the sheets in 1m x 1m sizes as the panels here are relatively flat and bending them was quite straightforward Moving forwards, again on the starboard side, a lot of new re-plating (all 6mm) View of new plating and new inner ribs

Port side, at the joint of the keel to the hull, more curved 6mm plates

Close up of the work/access hatch. A lock was fitted and hinges welded onto the bottom edge so that it was possible to lock the boat up at night More re-plating on the starboard side The old thruster tunnel New ribs and plating

New ribs and Plating View looking aft along keel line Port side new plates Tunnel prior to removal Filler chipped off the outside before cuting out the old steel. A plasma cutter was used for the removal of rusty sections, the fille has to be removed first because it interferes with the operation of the machine if left on the steel

Starboard side, sections under the portlights has rusted away from the inside because there were no limber holes for drainage Tunnel removed Port side coming up to the thruster tunnel Tunnel plated over Port side re-plating

Starboard side plates, tacked in to hold them in place prior to fully welding inside first More new plates Port side plates View of the aft end all finished, the prop tube covers have been left off so that the area can be properly sand blasted cleaned out and painted first Starboard side all filled in

Close up of starboard side. In the photo you’ll notice i’ve marked it port side, this is a mistake! New bow section Port side ready for welding Starboard side all re-plated Another view of bow

Bow
Mid section all re-plated but with the door yet to be filled in
Port side finished Port bow finished Starboard side finished and the hatch closed after another day of welding

Starboard side finished. The 2 more rusty sections in the middle of the picture were installed by the previous welder, but were ok and so left in Hull finished and ready for transport. Here we are welding some feet to the hull to assist in the attachment of a cradle The access hatch has now been welded shut One of the feet for the cradle and a view of a portlight filled in, this is due to the new interior design and the aft bulkhead needing to be moved forward by 40cm (over the window)
